Auditions

Put Your Best Foot Forward

The institution seeks students whose talent and commitment to excellence promise future achievement within its programmes. Auditions are evaluated by faculty members who will be looking for a set of key attributes within each applicant. These attributes will help assess how the student will respond to what and how we teach, the students commitment to growth and their natural ability as a performer.

Applications for all programmes are to be done online on our website prior to the application deadline. Auditions are free and all information regarding auditions will be made available on our website and advertisements. No applications will be accepted on the day of auditions. Registration closes 30min before the start of the audition and all outcomes will be communicated within three weeks.

 Dance

 

The audition will consist of:

  • A technique class in Classical Ballet, Modern/Jazz
  • Choreography in a Commercial dance style
  • Applicants are asked to prepare (not improvise) a 90 second solo in any style that showcases their performance skills and best ability as a dancer.

Dress Code

  • Dancers should be neat and professional looking
  • Ladies: STRICTLY Black sleeveless unitard or black leotard with black tights (Must stop at the ankles)
  • Men: STRICTLY Black sleeveless unitard or black leotard or form fitting vest with Black Tights (Must stop at the ankles)
  • Dancers must be barefoot but should bring a pair of dance boots or sneakers for the commercial dance choreography
  • Hair should be neat, pulled back if long, and away from the face and neck.

 Music

 

The audition will consist of:

  • A vocal performance class
  • Dance and movement
  • Applicants are asked to prepare TWO CONTRASTING SONGS that showcase their performance skills and best ability as a singer. Songs must be performed using either a backing track, unaccompanied or with a pianist. A pianist will be provided and all backing tracks need to be provided on a USB at registration. Songs can be performed in any South African language however one must be performed in English.

Dress Code

  • Singers are to wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move around in such as tracksuits/sweat pants, leggings, vests or a T-shirt. No jeans or short skirts
  • Hair should be neat, pulled back if long, and away from the face and neck
  • No sandals or open shoes. Preferably sneakers or takkies.

 Drama

 

The audition will consist of:

  • A dramatic/acting class
  • Dance and movement
  • Applicants are asked to prepare TWO CONTRASTING MONOLOGUES of maximum 2 minutes each that showcase their performance skills and best ability as an actor. Monologues can be performed in any South African language however one must be performed in English.

Dress Code

  • Actors are to wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move around in such as tracksuits/sweat pants, leggings, vests or a T-shirt. No jeans or short skirts
  • Hair should be neat, pulled back if long, and away from the face and neck
  • No sandals or open shoes. Preferably sneakers or takkies.
