AUDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS

PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD
At SSIPA, we seek students whose talent, passion, and potential promise future achievement within our programmes. Every audition is carefully evaluated by our faculty, who look for key attributes that show how each applicant may grow and respond to our unique style of training.
Applications and auditions for all programmes are free, and details about audition dates and requirements will always be available on our website and through our official announcements. All applications must be completed online via our website.
Professional Training Programme – Audition Requirements
Entry is by audition only. Each year, students are selected based on raw talent, commitment, and artistic potential — not just background or previous access to training.
Applicants must first complete the Online Application Form, after which they may either attend a live audition at one of our official venues or submit a video audition via our website.
Dance
- Prepare (not improvise) two contrasting 90-second solos in any style that highlights your performance skills and strengths as a dancer.
- At live auditions, applicants will also take part in a technique and choreography class.
- Dancers should wear neat, form-fitting attire that is professional and allows movement.
OR
Singing
- Prepare two contrasting songs that showcase your range, artistry, and performance ability.
- Songs may be performed a cappella (without music) or using a backing track.
OR
Acting
- Prepare two contrasting monologues of up to 2 minutes each.
- Monologues may be performed in any South African language, but at least one must be in English.
- Pieces should demonstrate versatility, truthfulness, and performance skill.
OR
Multi-Talented Applicants
- Applicants who excel in more than one discipline are to prepare one performance item (up to 2 minutes each) in two or all three disciplines of singing, acting and dancing.
- This option is designed to highlight versatility and creativity — core qualities of a true triple threat.
Tip: Choose material that excites you and best reflects your unique voice as a performer.

Kids & Teens Training Programme – Audition Guide
Auditions for the Kids & Teens Training Programme will take place on the first Saturday of every term at one of our campuses (East London, Johannesburg, or Cape Town). Please note: registration is only possible at the start of a term — mid-term entry is not allowed.

- Personal Introduction (30–60 seconds)
- Say your name, age, and where you’re from.
- Keep it friendly, natural, and confident!
- Monologue or Short Joke (1 minute max)
- Prepare a short monologue, poem, or even a funny joke to perform.

- Movement Audition
